This form allows searching of bibliographic records and abstracts of AGU publications from 1896 to present. New articles are added daily, as soon as they are published. A subscription is required to access the full articles in HTML and PDF, except for Reviews of Geophysics, which is now open to all readers from 1963 through 2002.
- Phrases: Use double quotes "..." e.g. "water temperature"
- Right truncation: (words beginning with the same root): Use * as a wildcard e.g. any* would match "any", "anything", "anywhere". [NOTE: Left truncation (entering a search term beginning with *) is not supported and will result in a Time Out.]
- Authors: You can search on lastname alone, or on initial(s) and lastname. Use double quotes ("...") to include initials; e.g."F. Lastname" or "F. M. Lastname" ("first initial, period, space, [middle initial, period, space] lastname"). Note that initials may not be consistent; for an inclusive search, it is safer to use just lastname. You can also browse the Author Index to see listings of author names and their possible variations, to help choose the correct one to search. Search compound names within quotes, e.g."Van Soest"
- Dates: The searchable archive is indicated for each journal. Dates can be further specified using the Date field following the ISO 8601 date format YYYY-MM-DD, YYYY-MM, or YYYY; e.g. 2000-06-01 for June 1 2000
- DOI/Article ID: Search for a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) or Article ID (paper number) by entering just the suffix of the DOI to look up (i.e. omit the AGU prefix 10.1029/)
- Index Terms: Select terms or codes from the AGU Index Set. Use a term code (e.g. "0305") for articles indexed with a specific term (0305 - Atmospheric Composition and Structure: Aerosols and particles), or use words within a term (e.g. "Aerosols", which will retreive the above as well as "4801 - Oceanography: Aerosols" etc.).
- Too Few or No Results: Check that you have selected the Journal(s) and the appropriate Field(s) to search; check the spelling of your query. If your search still results in low retrieval, try using a broader term; if searching on an author name, try just the last name.
- Too Many Results: If combining terms, check that you have selected the 'AND' operator and the appropriate Field(s) to search; you might also try using a more specific term; if searching a phrase be sure it is enclosed within double quotes ("...").
- Refer/EndNote import: Choose "Refer(EndNote)" format, and save search results locally as a plain text file with a ".ref" or ".enw" extension, which can then be imported to an EndNote library using the "EndNote Import" filter, as well as most other bibliographic reference manager applications. Check manual for more information.
- Browse Indexes: Use the form below to browse the indexes and view the number of occurrences. This can help you select which terms to use in your search.
