Earth, space, and environmental scientists are pushing the boundaries of human understanding of our complex world every day. They seek and use larger and more varied data in their research with a growing need for data integration and synthesis across scientific domains. Data repositories are a critical resource to the research ecosystem providing data, information and tools that enable the use and understanding of the data. New skills are often needed to effectively interact with data. This session explores the challenges and successes repository managers and communities have in providing support, building data management and integration skills, and other services to researchers accessing and using data from multiple sources, scientific domains, with unfamiliar formats, and unknown quality and uncertainty. We seek methods for identifying, communicating and teaching best practices and challenges in this diverse data environment, and for building critical data skills related to data integration and data management.
