Ocean Outcomes
Ocean Outcomes Session Overview
This pilot topic area on solution-oriented science will showcase practical, actionable scientific solutions to real-world problems.
The goal is to bring together innovators, practitioners, and ocean researchers to share their experiences in solution-oriented science, from the initial idea, through project development and implementation, to lessons learned. The goal of this track is to foster knowledge sharing and inspire new projects and collaborations that have the potential to have direct, positive impacts on society.
The track will feature longer talks or panel discussions, allowing for in-depth exploration of the subject matter and creating a focused, intimate setting for participants to engage with the material. The session duration will be less than 90 minutes, with an exact duration to be determined.
Proposals must be submitted by 23:59 EDT/03:59 UTC on 28 May 2025.
Requirements and Guidelines
Consider these questions before proposing your Ocean Outcomes session:
- What topic, problem, or need was the catalyst for your organization’s work? Or, what expertise can you share based on your organization’s work?
- Why does the audience need to know about that problem/topic? How might it impact them?
- What did you learn about the problem? What needs did you identify in the process?
- What was surprising or unexpected in your exploration of this topic?
- How did you go about exploring this topic? Who did you partner with?
- What is the most important take-away about the topic that you hope the audience will remember?
- What are the next steps/future of the work?
Proposals must include a short description of no more than 200 words, as well as a statement of no more than 200 words on the intended outcome that you would like attendees to take away.
Proposals must name one primary contact and one to four proposed presenters. Please add as much information as known at the time of submission. If accepted, you will have an opportunity to update your list of presenters at a later date.
Proposals that are primarily advertisements or product demonstrations will not be considered.
Sessions will be selected by the program committee to ensure that each talk is rooted in research with tangible, scientifically backed outcomes. By focusing on real-world solutions, this topic area aims to provide valuable insights that inspire future research, collaboration, and technological advancements.
