Town Halls

Town hall proposals are reviewed, accepted, and allocated by the program committee.

Proposal Deadline: Proposals must be submitted via the session proposal site by 23 April 2025 (23:59 EDT/03:59 UTC).

Proposed by the AGU community, these one-hour sessions are designed for:

  • Collecting feedback, raising awareness, or delivering updates
  • Gathering input about initiatives, academic programs, special projects or focused interest groups.
  • Roundtable or panel discussion formats

All town halls will take place in-person at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA, with limited virtual participation options.

Proposals must be submitted by 23 April 2025 (23:59 EDT/03:59 UTC).

Keep the following in mind:

  • The program committee reviews all proposals and generally will not consider:
    • Proposals that are primarily advertisements of commercial products and services, or that contain the name of a specific experiment in the title or description. (For opportunities to exhibit or sponsor activities at AGU25, please see the Exhibit page.)
    • Proposals that duplicate scientific session formats or replace ancillary event requests.
  • Primary contacts/submitters must be current 2025 AGU Members. Submitters who are members of an Affiliated Society/Organization and submitters who are non-geoscientists may request a membership waiver.
  • Multiple proposals are allowed, but ensure each proposal focuses on a different topic.
  • AGU expects all moderators will be onsite to chair in-person town halls.
  • The program committee may ask that similar town hall proposals merge or be revised to avoid duplication in the meeting’s scientific program. Following the proposal deadline, the program committee will reach out to primary contacts/submitters to make these requests if needed.
  • Town hall must be conducted within the parameters of your proposal submission.
  • If you submit a Town Hall proposal, you will be notified of acceptance or rejection in mid-June. After the deadline, the program committee reserves the right to:
    • Reject, move or merge multiple proposals on related topics.
    • Request that conveners revise the town hall title and/or description.
