Secretary

Bio

Professor, National Central University, Taoyuan City, Taiwan

AGU embraces the global community and welcomes leaders representing various identities, voices, and perspectives. List any identities, voices, and perspectives you would bring, including but not limited to nationality, regional representations, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and anything else you feel comfortable sharing.

Researchers in Asian countries have made significant contributions to mineral physics, and many are members of the Mineral and Rock Physics (MRP) section. As a non-U.S. member from Taiwan and an Asian mineral physicist, I have had the privilege of collaborating with colleagues from Japan, China, the U.S., and various European countries. Benefiting from this diverse collaborative experience, I am committed to promoting diversity and inclusivity within our community as the Secretary of the MRP section. My background enables me to advocate effectively for underrepresented groups, ensuring their contributions are recognized and valued. I aim to foster a welcoming environment where all members feel included and respected, regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, or professional background.

Volunteer experience that relates to this position:

I convened and/or chaired sessions in the Mineral and Rock Physics (MRP) Section of the AGU Meeting in 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024. I also review manuscripts for AGU, American Physical Society (APS), and American Chemical Society (ACS) journals on a regular basis.

Q&A

As one of the elected leaders of your section, how will you partner with your president, president-elect, other leaders, and staff to communicate with and engage your members to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals?

As the Secretary of the MRP section, I will assist the President and President-Elect in fostering collaboration and engagement among our members. My priorities include enhancing communication, promoting inclusivity, and deepening interdisciplinary research.

To enhance communication, I will regularly update members on section activities, opportunities, and achievements through newsletters, emails, and the MRP webpage. I will also assist in organizing various meetings, ensuring they are accessible and engaging for all members.

For promoting inclusivity, I will encourage diverse participation in section activities and highlight the work of underrepresented groups. As a non-U.S. member of the MRP section, I am committed to building a community where all voices are valued, fostering a welcoming environment.

To deepen interdisciplinary collaboration, I will help organize workshops and collaborative projects that strengthen connections between members from different disciplines. This will ensure that members with diverse expertise can work together on innovative research addressing global challenges.

Together with the President, President-Elect, other leaders, and AGU staff, I will work to create a vibrant, supportive, and impactful community that aligns with AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals. By promoting effective communication, inclusivity, and collaboration, we can advance scientific discovery and innovation for a sustainable and equitable future.
