Bio

Staff Scientist, Earth and Planets Laboratory, Carnegie Science, Washington, D.C., USA

AGU embraces the global community and welcomes leaders representing various identities, voices, and perspectives. List any identities, voices, and perspectives you would bring, including but not limited to nationality, regional representations, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and anything else you feel comfortable sharing.

I am a white woman and international scholar. My academic journey started in France where I grew up and obtained my undergraduate and master’s degree. I moved to the U.S. and obtained my Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Madison. I first got a Postdoctoral fellowship position and then a permanent researcher position at Carnegie Science in Washington, D.C. All along this journey I feel grateful that I encountered very supportive mentors that shaped my positive experience of academia and helped me achieve my goal. Seeing the challenges people from less privileged backgrounds can face, I hope to bring my experience to have their voices heard and tackle some of these challenges.

Volunteer experience that relates to this position:

Manuscript reviewer for AGU journals; AGU sessions chair/co-chair on multiple topics in volcanology/geodesy (2018, 2021, 2023); Cities on Volcanoes and International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics sessions co-convener (2019, 2024); Panelist for the International Association of Volcanology and Chemistry of the Earth's Interior (IAVCEI) Early-Career Researchers Network Discussion Panel on Careers in Academia (2020); Co-organizer of 2017 DC volcanology meeting; Mentor for the AGU Geodesy and Seismology Early Career/Student Networking Event (2018).

Q&A

As one of the elected leaders of your section, how will you partner with your president, president-elect, other leaders, and staff to communicate with and engage your members to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals?

I will work closely with the section president and president-elect to implement the tasks laid out in the AGU strategic plan and make sure the AGU vision and values are respected at every step in the decisions. The field of geodesy is facing a unique challenge to train the next generation of geodesists and attracting and retaining new members to this field should be a high priority. I will support the president/president-elect in their mission to make our section as inclusive and diverse as possible by engaging new members and early career scientists in the section activities and ensuring that a diversity of perspectives and backgrounds is represented. I look forward to engaging with the section leadership and members and participating in discussions on the future direction the section takes.
