Q&A
Board members work together with other volunteer leaders and staff to play a key role in implementing AGU’s strategic plan. What aspects of the strategic plan do you see yourself contributing to the most? How would you work with others to advance AGU’s values, vision, mission, and goals?
I believe I can significantly contribute to the strategic plan's three main goals:
1) As an Earth scientist focused on integrated assessment models of the economy and climate, I am deeply committed to using the best science we have to tackle our most pressing challenges as a society from a diverse and inclusive perspective.
2) As a non-native English speaker from Mexico, I initially felt lost as an AGU member. Like many of us, I have experienced the challenges faced by individuals with added struggles related to their identity or nationality, so I will work to create a more welcoming and inclusive community.
3) Finally, as a community leader and organizer, I have experienced firsthand the power of partnerships, and I'm always seeking to build bridges with other actors outside our field to advance our common challenges.
I understand that I will be joining a diverse group of individuals with complementary skills essential for advancing AGU's path. I plan to continue being a good listener with an open perspective, understanding how others view our community and our collective role in its transformation. I aim to find common ground creatively among members, volunteers, and staff to advance AGU’s mission and goals.
