Q&A

This role aims to catalyze community and build AGU as envisioned by the strategic plan. This leadership position is a dual role - helping to advance AGU’s strategic plan as a member of Council and leading your section. How would you support the Board, staff and other sections to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals? How will you engage with members of your section to execute AGU’s strategic plan?

AGU has been a symbol of excellence and integrity for me, both in science and in its relation with the society. As a researcher, I have embraced the international stage that the Earth science community offers, working in various institutions with colleagues from around the world — a core value I would also like to promote and preserve. Establishing broad and inclusive partnerships with the society and within AGU is critical to ensure that our findings are not only fundamental but also solution-based. I hope to support AGU in effectively communicating science-based solutions to external stakeholders.

As the section leader, I will ensure that we maintain strong connections with other sections pertaining to the solid Earth and planetary sciences. The Mineral and Rock Physics section excels in exploring the fundamental physics of solid Earth materials, but the impact of our discoveries are not brought to its full potential without application to various problems in Earth sciences. I am committed to promoting joint efforts across sections to organize impactful sessions and workshops at major AGU gatherings. Achieving diverse and equal representation in section leadership will also continue to be a top priority as we advance.
