Bio

Project Manager, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München , Munich, Germany

AGU embraces the global community and welcomes leaders representing various identities, voices, and perspectives. List any identities, voices, and perspectives you would bring, including but not limited to nationality, regional representations, racial and ethnic backgrounds, and anything else you feel comfortable sharing.

Although I cannot speak for other communities and cultures, my work as a Volunteer Park Ranger at Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park and my contacts with colleagues in New Zealand have increased my awareness of the concerns, expectations and perspectives of other cultures. I would like to work towards greater acceptance of indigenous and traditional knowledge in academia. In addition, I advocate designing science more in the sense of co-design and with more awareness of geo-ethic issues.

Volunteer experience that relates to this position:

AGU Education section Leadership Board; AGU Fall Meeting Planning Committee; AGU Public Information Committee; AGU Outreach Committee; AGU Honors and Recognition Committee; AGU Representative for the American Institute of Physics Gemant Award Committee; Spokesperson for German section of the International Association for Promoting Geoethics; Member of the European Geosciences Union; Volunteer in Park with the National Park Service; Member of Public Communication of Science and Technology (PSCT)

Q&A

As one of the elected leaders of your section, how will you partner with your president, president-elect, other leaders, and staff to communicate with and engage your members to achieve AGU’s vision, values, mission, and goals?

As volunteers from all parts of the world come together and cooperate efficiently in AGU committees, constant and open communication is important. Collaborative work on statements and position papers as well as regular coordination on planned and ongoing initiatives is urgently needed. We have had very good experiences in the past with the AGU Connect platform and other cloud-based tools. Even if online meetings cannot completely replace face-to-face meetings, a clear agenda and the formulation and assessment of common short, medium and long-term goals help us to act in a targeted manner.
