Hybrid Meeting Overview
AGU Fall Meeting 2021 will be held in-person in New Orleans, Louisiana as well as online everywhere from 13-17 December.
#AGU21 is optimizing both in-person and worldwide online participation so that attendees will have numerous opportunities for interactions that person-to-person meetings allow, from networking opportunities, impromptu live discussions, field trips, workshops and side-meetings as well as the very popular exhibit hall.
Additional benefits of an in-person and online meeting include:
- A broader worldwide audience, including increased attendance options for students.
- Ease of online attendance for professionals of organizations in other sectors beyond Earth and space sciences.
- A decreased carbon footprint.
- Most scientific sessions will be recorded and available on-demand after #AGU21 so people can (re)watch at their convenience.
#AGU21 is taking the best of #AGU20, other past events and the latest tools and technologies to create a customizable online and/or in-person experience to foster learning, sharing and networking with others.
Based on feedback from #AGU20, we will continue to offer:
- Expanded time for discussion and interaction in sessions and breaks.
- Online and on-demand availability of full content and sessions.
- Shorter presentations followed by deeper access to and discussion with authors.
- Online participation and engagement and optimize in-person experience.
- Opportunities for poster presenters to engage in an oral or eLightning format session and present highlights.
Here are a few possible examples of scenarios that an attendee or presenter can expect from #AGU21:
- In some sessions, some presenters and attendees will appear in-person (in New Orleans) while others will be presenting or attending via video. Attendees can ask questions, regardless of how they are attending the sessions.
- Some online-only sessions may occur during the main meeting hours, as shoulder events, or outside of daily core meeting time/dates.
- Dedicated daily times for poster engagement.
