Global Science Policy at AGU
AGU provides scientists at all levels, including students, with opportunities to become effective advocates for science policy and use their expertise to address global challenges.

Opportunities to Get Involved

AGU empowers scientists to make an impact. Whether through science policy, global engagement, or bridging science and society, there are many ways to get involved and shape the future of Earth and space sciences.

Voices for Science
Launched in 2018, Voices for Science is AGU’s year-long program that trains scientists in science policy and media outreach, equipping them with tools to effectively engage with the public and policymakers. Participants based outside the Americas will receive virtual training to ensure accessibility. Applications for this year's global cohort will open in May 2025.
Serve on a Position Statement Panel
Every four years, AGU updates its position statements to reflect evolving scientific knowledge and policy needs. We seek global experts in Earth and space sciences, with an understanding of policymaker perspectives, to run this committee and to help draft these essential documents. Fill out the volunteer form anytime to be considered.
Global Engagement Committee
The Global Engagement Committee works alongside AGU leadership to advance international objectives by steering discussions within the Board, Council, committees and task forces. This collaborative effort ensures that AGU’s global initiatives remain strong and aligned with its mission to support Earth and space sciences worldwide.
Science & Society Section
The Science & Society (SY) section builds a community that strengthens ties between society and Earth and space sciences. It fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and drives innovation within AGU, ensuring that scientific discoveries contribute to solving real-world challenges. The section is actively seeking new members.
Past Global Webinars
AGU has hosted a range of global webinars covering critical topics in science policy, public engagement, and advocacy. These sessions provide scientists with insights into policymaking, communication strategies, and international collaborations.
