Film producer, Dr. Kendall Moore, author and director of the film series Can We Talk Difficult Conversations with Underrepresented People of Color: Sense of Belonging and Obstacles to STEM Fields will discuss her insightful and award winning work exploring the issue of ‘social belonging’ in the context of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) and the effect it has on the lives of underrepresented people of color (UR-POC) who are pursuing an education or career in STEM; or, have decided to leave because of an overwhelming feeling of not belonging. Her opening address will be followed by a panel to feature Professor Ruth Enid Zambrana, author of Toxic Ivory Towers, plus other esteemed panelists to further explore and discuss life experiences of underrepresented minority faculty of color in the academy, and the drive for intentional inclusion in the professoriate.

This plenary event will provide a deeper understanding of the lives lived (currently and historically) of UR-POC.

This event will feature Professor Kendall Moore as a Plenary Speaker (20 minutes) to be followed by a 40-minute panel with Q&A.
