This year, the AGU Fall Meeting includes a mix of sessions optimized for a global virtual meeting. For most sessions, longer pre-recorded presentations and virtual posters will be available for attendees to view when the meeting begins on 1 December. The live sessions will focus on short overview presentations and moderated discussions. These discussions will also be recorded and available during the dates of the meeting. This structure maximizes engagement and the ability for broad participation across time zones.

Meeting Platform: Some of the sessions and other events at the AGU Fall Meeting will make use of zoom and zoom webinar.  In joining these, all attendees will be offered the option of using a web browser rather than the zoom app.  Most major participant functions are supported in the browser, including sharing screens, chat, and breakout rooms.  For a full list of functions and information on supported browsers, see here

Resources and Guidelines: Further guidelines for each session type are given in each tab below. Resources and trainings are also available to all presenters to ensure a successful presentation at the Fall Meeting. Please view the following sites for more information:

Live Oral Session Format

Each live oral session will be one hour in length, featuring brief overview presentations from each presenter and time for audience Q&A and discussion, all moderated by the session chairs. The live Q&A sessions will be recorded and available for on-demand viewing by attendees during the rest of the meeting.

Most live oral sessions will be using Zoom Webinar or the main meeting platform, called Intrado. Either platform allows the chairs and speakers to be in a panel view. Attendees will be in a separate virtual space, where they can use the chat feature to ask questions. Technical support will be available for each session. Many sessions will also include a student volunteer and/or an AGU staff representative to assist and help moderate questions.

NEW FOR #AGU20 FALL MEETING

Due to the move to a virtual meeting, in addition to the live Q&A oral session, presenting authors will prepare a 15-minute (maximum) pre-recorded presentation and upload it by 23 November to be available for viewing by registered attendees beginning at the start of the meeting (1 December). Pre-recordings will be available for on-demand viewing only and WILL NOT be presented during the live sessions.

Pre-recorded oral presentations can be uploaded via the Participant’s Corner. The deadline to upload presentations online is Monday, 23 November at 17:00 PST (UTC -8). This earlier deadline was set with careful consideration of the overall meeting experience and is ten days out from the start of the  meeting, a gap that includes the US holiday of Thanksgiving. Due to the volume of presentations, this earlier deadline will allow chairs and staff to ensure availability and quality of all of the presentations and have the presentations ready for all registered attendees to view at the start of the meeting on 1 December.

LIVE SESSION FORMAT

Login with your AGU universal login and password to begin creating your eLightning session presentation.

Each live eLightning session will be one hour in length, starting with a three-minute lightning presentation from each presenter providing an overview of their digital, interactive poster. This will be followed by group discussion as time permits. The live Q&A sessions will be recorded and available for on-demand viewing.

Presenters are also requested to be available for one hour after the live session for direct text chat with attendees. Presenters will also have the option to schedule additional text chat times during the meeting at their discretion.

eLightning session presenters will upload their digital, interactive virtual poster through a web-based platform. The aMuze! iPosterSessions platform has been used by AGU for the last three years and is a flexible HTML based poster format that allows authors to create interactive presentations that can include high-resolution images, videos and animations, voice-over narrations and scrolling content. At the most basic, you can simply paste in text and images from a PDF poster into one of several existing templates. Authors also have the option of recording a brief introduction or summary recording linked in the presentation.

The deadline to upload presentations online is Monday, 23 November at 17:00 PST (UTC -8) in order to be published and available to registered attendees by the start of the meeting, 1 December. However, please note that authors will have access to make any updates to their presentations until 31 December.
